We had the pleasure of hosting St Catharine’s very own Dr David Bainbridge. His talk was based on his most recent popular science book, “Teenagers: A Natural History”, where he explains that adolescence evolved for a very good reason. It is the single experience that makes us truly human.

We had our annual JR dinner, with wine and good-food. We said good-bye to the out-going President, Sarah Reis-Coward and welcomed in the new committee.

We were lucky enough to host Prof. Jenny Clack, curator at the University museum of Zoology. She discussed her discovery of Acanthostega, a primitive tetrapod with eight digits, as well as other interesting discoveries in the water to land transitions

The John Ray Society hosted Professor Smith, Professor of the Plant Biochemistry in Cambridge Plant Sciences. She discussed the future of biofuels and bioenergy, such as the potential use of algae for bioenergy,and explained why this link is slightly misleading…
